UNDERSTAND
1. Find out what the most recent information on a natural disaster around the world is. Summarise what has happened.
2. Choose one Sideswipe article from two days ago and explain why you found it interesting/entertaining. Be detailed in your answer, e.g. ‘because it is cool’ is not a valid answer!
3. Choose a recent movie that has been reviewed. Restate in your own words what the movie is about and write your own review as to whether people should go see it based on information from the original review.
4. Find a destination to visit that is reported on. What made you choose this place? Give a detailed answer including quotes from the relevant article.
5. Choose one of the five ‘top weekender’ trips listed. Why would you go there and what would you do whilst there?
APPLY
1. Find out about one of the latest gadgets in the news. Explain how people in New Zealand could apply it to their lives, that is different for any other country.

3. Summarise the most recent article that is related to health issues in our country. Explain how it applies to your life.
ANALYSE
1. Find an article that refers to issues to do with New Zealand’s education. Read the article, analyse it and decide if you agree with it. Explain your viewpoint, justifying yourself.
2. Compare and contrast (using a Venn diagram or similar graphic organiser), two recent articles on New Zealand driving charges. Which article do you feel is the most thought provoking and why?
3. Find the latest value of the NZ dollar against the US and Australian dollar and the Japanese Yen. Have they gone up or down and by how much? What do you think causes this to happen?
4. Find out the latest on what is happening in the retail market. Can you relate to this article based on your own and your family's shopping habits?
